UtilForge.org puts cybersecurity first, with practical tools and guides for a safer online world for all. Disabled people experience more fraud in every country that measures it, so accessibility sits at the centre of how each check is built and explained.
What each check is built to do
- Plain language. Every result says what was found and what to do next, in short sentences.
- Larger text. The A+ Larger text button at the top of UtilForge guide pages enlarges the whole page.
- Keyboard use. The checks are built to be used with the Tab and Enter keys, without a mouse or touch screen.
- Results that are read aloud. Message checks such as Is This a Scam Text announce their result to screen readers as soon as it appears.
- No time limits, no accounts and no puzzles. Nothing asks you to prove you are human, sign in or finish within a set time.
- Works offline. Once a page has loaded, the check keeps working with the internet off, so a weak or costly connection does not stop it.
- Large-print handouts. Each creator playbook includes a large-print handout to print or share, and the free book How to Become Safer Online is in large print.
- Captions. Every demo clip for creators comes with a timed caption file.
How accessibility is checked
- Automated testing against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1, level AA, across the homepage, the creators page and the free tools, repeated after changes.
- One known exception by design: the Contrast Checker opens with grey text (#777777) on white, which falls just short of the 4.5 to 1 minimum, to show what a failing pair looks like. Its own controls and text pass.
- Keyboard-only use of Is This a Scam Text and Delivery Text Check: each can be reached, filled in and run with the Tab and Enter keys, and each announces its warning to screen readers.
What comes next
- Testing with people who use screen readers, magnifiers, switch access and voice control, with disability organisations, and publishing what they find.
- Easy-read versions of the most-used checks and guides, written with people with learning disabilities.
- Captions and transcripts on every UtilForge video.
Tell UtilForge about a barrier
If any page, check or document is hard to use with the way you use a phone or computer, write to support@utilforge.org with the page address and what happened. Every report is read, and fixes are listed on this page.
